THE SKELLIGS
Owned by my family for over 40 years, The Skelligs is where I grew up and embarked on countless adventures. Storms in winter would lull me to sleep as they battered the windows, while summer days found me exploring the rocky shores, and for a long time I wanted to become a Marine Biologist!
The name of the house was chosen by my mother, an Irishwoman from Limerick. The Great Mewstone island in Wembury Bay reminded her of the Skellig Islands off the South West coast of Ireland in County Kerry.
Skellig, derives from the old Irish word sceillec, which translates as “small or steep area of rock”, certainly a fitting description of the Great Mewstone
Today, The Skelligs is available as a holiday let through Toad Hall and Airbnb.
This website aims to share local knowledge and insights so guests can fall in love with the place just as I have.
